DJ Friction…Dillinja... Mampi Swift... Randall…and more!
In February, The End launched Shogun Audio, the latest weapon in its arsenal of peerless drum & bass nights that also
includes Renegade Hardware, Ram Records, DJ Marky & Friends and Swerve. Shogun Audio is DJ Friction’s label, which since
launching in 2004 has rapidly become one of the most exciting and forward-thinking new labels on the scene, with the brightest
young talent in drum & bass, Alix Perez, already signed up to a deal. Their new event at The End is a platform for Friction
to showcase the label’s growing roster of talent as part of some of the most original line ups in drum & bass right now.
The launch party was something special; an incredible crowd, a three hour set from Friction and inevitably, queues round the
block! For their latest event, Shogun has compiled something even more special with a truly jaw-dropping line up.
Friction will be playing an exclusive two hour, main room set using the extra time to cover more styles and sounds than he
may sometimes be associated with, and don’t be surprised if he begins to dabble with breaks and beyond! Joining Friction will
be his latest Shogun signing, New Zealand duo State of Mind.
The Shogun soldiers will be joined by some of the scene’s true heavyweights. Bass-king Dillinja is one of the most
celebrated producers in drum & bass history and will be playing a one-off classics selection. With a back catalogue
that could fill an entire night, including the likes of ‘Angels Fell’, ‘Friday’, ‘Nasty Wayz’, ‘Grimey’ and ‘Twist ‘Em Out’,
this will be a monstrously bass heavy set! Also providing a history lesson will be Bristolian jungle stalwart Krust with a
Full Cycle classics set that via the label’s giant catalogue will encompass much of the finest drum & bass ever made.
Adding spice to an already mouthwatering dish will be appearances from Mampi Swift, Randall and a back to back from two
of the most talented and fresh new acts in the scene, Noisia and Break. Lyrical support comes from Dynamite MC, Eksman,
SP:MC and Metalheadz mainstay Justyc.
In the lounge, the Shogun crew have pulled together a number of the finest purveyors of dirty breaks around, with
sets from DJ Quest, Ctrl Z and School of Thought. Also supplying the tunes will be XFM’s Eddy Temple-Morris whose
genre-mashing rock meets dance DJ sets and radio shows have been causing riots all over the place – expect to hear
some outrageous remixes!
